TINFA In Action: A Visit to Classrooms in Guatemala

In late March and early April, several members of TINFA’s Board, along with our Executive Director Emma Le Du, travelled to Guatemala to visit a number of schools participating in TINFA’s teacher training program.

From the moment we stepped into each classroom, we were met with warmth, enthusiasm, and a contagious energy from both teachers and students. Classrooms were buzzing with curiosity and as students showcased what they’ve been learning. After a few smiles and introductions, we quietly found our way to the back of the room and the lessons carried on, and we were soon forgotten.

What struck us most was the creative and thoughtful ways teachers are bringing technology into their classrooms. In one geography lesson, students used Google Maps to explore parts of the world in a way a textbook simply can’t capture. In another, QR codes transformed a simple quiz into an engaging, real-time polling game, igniting a spirit of friendly competition.

Across all the classrooms, it was clear: when technology is paired with traditional teaching practices, magic happens. Students were not just learning—they were excited to learn. And that’s the kind of transformation we aim to witness.

Around the Corner: GiveBIG 2025

This year’s annual GiveBIG fundraiser is coming up on May 6–7!

Our 2025 theme is “Supporting Guatemala’s Future,” a reflection of the incredible momentum we’ve seen in classrooms and communities thanks to your support. In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing more about how TINFA is working to make a difference with teachers and students in Guatemala—and how you can continue to be part of this important work through GiveBIG.
