TINFA’s mission is to “Empower teachers to bring 21st century skills to kids in underserved areas of developing countries.”
One of the major challenges we face is the large gap in educational achievement between girls and boys in Guatemala. To address this challenge, we have partnered with the Guatemalan organization, FUNDAP and its program, “Becas para La Nina” (Scholarships for Girls).
Since 2020, we have sponsored 44 girls in the program which is designed to keep girls in school from Fourth through Ninth Grades.
The program includes familiarizing parents, special training in math, reading, and personal development, with personalized tutoring and counseling to address personal challenges. Financial aid provides the resources needed to participate in school.
The results are impressive, with 92% of girls continuing to the next grade, each year.
Without this support, many girls will face limited prospects for their futures, including domestic work, early marriage, or low-paying labor in factories and fields.
One of the successful participants in the scholarship program is Irma. Follow her experience in “Irma’s Story.
