Irma's Story

One of the scholarship success stories is Irma’s.

Irma has been with the program for 3 years. She has become more social and developed the ability to speak in public and express her opinions without fear of judgment. One of her activities is attending the reading club, where she learns through games and activities with her peers. This club provides her with a space to express herself and share experiences with her friends.

At the end of 2024, Irma participated in a life project planning workshop, which was significant for her. She realized the importance of setting goals and defining timelines to achieve them. This activity also highlighted the importance of having the support of her family, especially her mother, who has been a major influence in her education.

In her life project presentation, Irma shared her ambition of becoming a doctor, inspired by the illness and subsequent death of her father, who could not afford medical care. She is determined to pursue this goal, knowing that the path will be challenging, but she is motivated by the support she receives from the project and the people around her. Irma also aspires to take care of her mother and family in the future and to support her community by serving the most vulnerable people. Her mother acknowledges Irma's qualities of service and her contributions to the family, such as helping with household chores and assisting in her mother's vegetable business.

Irma's story illustrates the impact of the scholarship program, which has supported her development both academically and personally.

We have recently added support for 8 new 4th grade girls in Calahuache, in the El Palmar district outside of Quetzaltenango (Xela).
