The teachers are in the middle of their capstone projects, a required activity to complete the yearlong TINFA training. The capstone project is a model class that each teacher presents in their classroom, with their students. This 25min exercise is witnessed by a panel of 3 judges: the TINFA coordinator, the director of the school (or in some instances the director of another school) and the Pedagogical coordinator of the ministry of education. The model class is evaluated against the criteria that the teachers defined at the beginning of the year and practiced throughout the year. (use of available tools, understanding of the subject, participation of the students, evaluation mechanisms, etc…).
The judges are particularly impressed with the quality of the classes this year, seeing elaborate and creative classes and a drastic improvement in student participation. It is the first year that directors of neighborhood schools are invited. We find that this cross evaluation provides diversity in the feedback, and directors tell us it is very valuable to them to see other teachers in action.
Overall, we are confident that the vast majority of our teachers will graduate. We look forward to celebrating with them!
