Today was the first regional workshop organized in conjunction with the prestigious group of Maestros Modelos. The Maestros Model is a group of 3 outstanding teachers selected from the pool of over 250 teachers TINFA has worked with in the region in recent years, who have committed to working together with us to organize 3 workshops . The goal is to provide hands-on practical peer training to their community of teachers in the region of Quetzaltenango and Retalhuleu.
This first workshop was 1h30, and was lead by teacher Mateo Perez Cortez from the school Rangel Galindo (graduated from the TINFA program in 2019). 100 teachers participated in this workshop via Zoom. These were teachers currently in the TINFA program, or teachers who have graduated from the TINFA program previous years.
During the workshop, Mateo explained and demonstrated the use of a virtual white board (through Mathigon). He went through several exercises, including going through a fraction problem in a visual way. Teachers were then divided into small virtual groups to practice the use of the tool. These small groups were supported by our group of Maestros Modelos, answering questions and helping in the practice.
During last 10min, teachers asked remaining questions and shared their experience. This was a very successful initiative, where teachers expressed the fact that they learnt about a very useful tool that they will be able to use with their students. They also felt inspired, and ready to explore more.
As supporters of TINFA, thank you for making such initiative happen. Thank you for empowering teachers. By making this workshop possible, this is exactly what you did.
