The third workshop organized by the “Maestros Modelos” took place on July 5th. The Maestros Modelos is a group of 3 outstanding teachers selected from over 250 TINFA graduate teachers: Cesar Cabrera (who came to Seattle in 2018), Mateo Gomez and Roseli Morales. Each workshop provides hands-on practical peer training on different topics to their community of teachers in the region of Quetzaltenango and Retalhuleu.
Over 80 teachers from current and past partner schools participated in the third workshop, led by Roseli Morales on the creative use of didactical materials. Despite being virtual, this workshop was particularly hands on, full of participation and educational games for teachers to use in their classrooms.
Participants also learned creative ways to use simple materials like paper to engage and delight their students. Who wouldn’t want origami pencil containers with googly eyes?
95% of the participants said that the workshop was very valuable or valuable. Due to community demand and the success of these workshops, a fourth and final workshop will be added in September with two tracks: Video Editing for Classroom Use and Teaching Geometry with Technology. Training opportunities are rare in rural Guatemala. So, we are grateful to be able to provide such quality and targeted workshops for these talented and passionate teachers.
